What makes Guernsey Special?
Tidal Range
• At 33 feet Guernsey’s tidal range is one of the largest in the world.
• It provides good water quality and ever changing scenery
• It can provide good surfing when the conditions are right.
Speed Limit
• The Maximum speed limit in Guernsey is 35mph
• The recommended speed limit is 15mph in rural lanes, known as Ruette Tranquille.
• All this adds to the island's laid back lifestyle
Roundabouts
• There are 7 roundabouts in Guernsey.
• The largest roundabout located in St Peter Port hosts a 100 ft mast. It was built to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of Liberation day. It is based on the mizzenmast of a 74-gun vessel seen in Guernsey waters in the 18th Century. Flags are raised on the mast to mark events and parish flags are also flown.
German Defenses
• Over 20% of the material that went into the Atlantic Wall was committed to the Channel Islands
• More than 66,000 mines were laid around Guernsey
• Bunkers have been converted to Museums, music studios and part of private homes.
Hedge Veg
• Locals sell their home grown fresh produce and flowers
• Hedge Veg stalls are run on an honesty system
• They are often home-made wooden stalls and boxes.

• Guernsey number plates consist of up to six numbers with no letters.
• The Registration number 1 is reserved for, and displayed on the Bailiff of Guernsey’s car, currently Sir Geoffrey Rowland and the Lieutenant Governor requires no number plate at all!
